Research findings

  1. Identity: Roxane Buels — stage name Madame Eveleen Carlton, soprano

SIGNIFICANT FIND. Charlie & August's 4×-great-grandmother was a professional soprano who performed the lead in one of NZ's first operas (Alfred Hill's Hinemoa, 1896), and who sang at a State Concert for the future King George V in 1901. The daughter she named 'Eveleen Dibley' (b.1900 Wellington) was named after this stage persona — effectively a stage name carried forward as a family given name. The National Library holds 5 related items including concert programmes. Papers Past will have reviews of these performances.

  2. Arrival: Harold (Henry/Harry) Stamers Dibley — Kaikoura 1895 to Wellington

Resolves the previously unconfirmed Wellington 1890s English cluster entry for Harold/Henry Dibley. KEY METHODOLOGICAL NOTE: This was found by Rainer with a bare Google name search after I had repeatedly searched for 'Harold Dibley' (the GEDCOM's primary recorded form) and missed him under 'Hy Dibley'. The lesson — when GEDCOM records alternate names in Ancestry's '(alt\alt)' notation, ALL variants must be searched. Henry Stamers Dibley is how Rainer always called him; my code was reading only the .first token (compounded with the 'Harold (Henry\Harry)' inline notation) and lost both 'Henry' and 'Harry'. Mrs R Dibley = his wife Roxane Buels travelling with him; her ark URL TBD — log as candidate roxane-buels-kaikoura-1895-same-voyage until captured.

  3. Residence: Roxane Dibley (née Buels / Mme Eveleen Carlton) — owner of 40 & 42 Aro Street Wellington 1902-1907

Co-subject Henry/Harold Stamers Dibley (husband, @I200240037080@) — he likely co-occupied but title was in Roxane's name. NEW BIOGRAPHICAL THREADS: (a) where Roxane sold to in 1907 may indicate a Dibley family move (next residence TBD); (b) the financial picture — soprano earnings funded a substantial property purchase, reinforcing the prominent-people entry; (c) Heritage NZ Aro Street Historic Area List #7030 may be worth a fuller pull for narrative context. Also: Rainer surfaced this from the Wellington City Heritage area page; WebFetch is bot-blocked on the live site but Google search snippets reveal the body text.

  4. Arrival: Roxane Buels (Mrs R Dibley / Mme Eveleen Carlton) — Kaikoura 1895 to Wellington

Joint-arrival finding with co_subject Henry/Harold (@I200240037080@). Single FamilySearch ark covers both; record format is the spouse-paired entry typical of 1890s NZSCo manifests. The 1895-Kaikoura → 1896-Hinemoa → 1901-royal-concert → 1902-Aro-Street property trajectory now hangs together as one biographical arc.
